Raven _____ looks at herself in the mirror, having
never expected that she’d dress up like this.
She’s wearing a long black dress with a purple waistline, her black and
purple hair curled with sparkly skulls placed throughout. She’s wearing her usual makeup (thick, black
eyeliner and purple eye shadow). Her
lipstick is even purple to match the rest of her. She never thought that she’d ever wear a
dress and look like a goth princess. But
the one thing more surprising than dressing up is her having an actual date to
the prom.
Raven met this man recently, as he’s new to the
school. From the first time she met him,
she felt attracted to him. He
understands her in ways that no one else does.
The doorbell rings, and Raven runs down the stairs,
careful not to trip over her long dress.
By the time she got down, Haven, her twin sister, had already opened the
door. “Hello, Gerard.” Haven said.
“Come on in.” Haven doesn’t sound
very enthusiastic, but she never does.
She’s like a highly intelligent robot, but shows emotion every once in a
while. She has said that she’s happy for
Raven, and Raven has learned to just trust that she’s telling the truth, even
though it’s hard to tell from her monotonous voice.
Gerard walks in, and both his and Raven’s eyes widen
as they look at each other. Gerard is
wearing a black tuxedo with a bright red tie, his red and black, emo-cut hair
combed and groomed. His bright red eyes
are gleaming with a passionate attraction as he says, “Raven… You’re too beautiful to describe.” His words make Raven blush.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.”
They both smile at each other, Raven’s purple eyes
shining. Haven has gotten out a camera,
their mother not caring enough about Raven to take any pictures and be happy
for her. “Smile!” And smile they do.
They leave to the school, both excited, but don’t
want to admit it. Neither of them have
ever gone to school dances, having never been interested, but it’s their senior
year. They might as well go to prom to
celebrate their coming graduation and their close friendship.
When Gerard and Raven first saw each other, they
were both surprised that there was someone like them. Different colored hair and eyes with the
same, gothic style. What people don’t
know about them is that their eyes and hair are actually their natural
color. They were born with these
differences from everyone else. It’s why
Raven’s parents don’t pay attention to her.
They fear her differences from them.
It’s the same with Gerard and his parents. But there’s one thing that they have never
told anyone but each other, not even their families.
Raven can create illusions with her mind. Gerard has pyrokinesis. He can create and control fire. Like their looks, they were born with it, but
it didn’t develop until they were eight.
They’ve never known why, but they’re just happy that they’re not alone
in the world anymore. Raven’s just happy
she wasn’t Gerard growing up. It’s much harder
to hide fire than illusions from parents.
They arrive at the school, Gerard opening every door
they get to for Raven, making her smile.
She loves that he’s such a gentleman, at least to her. Just by opening the doors, they can hear the
music pounding from the gym. It’s dark,
but there are different colored lights going off, just like a crazy party. They go to an empty corner, neither of them
enjoying the crowd, and start to dance.
“So how have you been?” Raven asks.
“Not too bad, especially now that I’m with you.” His statement makes Raven blush again. “Yourself?”
“About the same.”
An hour of dancing and talking passes by before
something unusual happens. Two men in
suits and wearing black shades walk in, looking around. Raven doesn’t have a good feeling about
it. “We should go…” She says.
“I agree.”
They start to sneak out, but, to their misfortune, one of the men spots
them.
“There they are!”
Raven and Gerard run, holding hands, Raven having to
hold up her dress to keep up. The two
men chase after them, Raven starting to feel scared. “What do you think they want?!”
“I don’t know!”
Gerard replies, panting as he continues to run with her. “But I don’t think it’s anything good!”
Before they know it, the men have caught up to them,
putting masks on. They throw something,
but Raven and Gerard don’t notice until there’s some sort of smoke coming out,
making them both dizzy and groggy.
Before Raven is completely unconscious, one of the men takes out a radio
and speaks into it. “We did it. We’ve got them.”
When Raven wakes up, she finds that she can’t
move. When she looks around, she can see
that her arms and legs are strapped to a table.
Raven struggles, but no matter how hard she tries, she can’t get
out. Her heart starts to race with
fear. Gerard is nowhere in sight, and
Raven is completely immobilized. She
hates being restricted with anything, and not being able to move really scares
her.
The room around her is dark, with one light right
above her. She can’t really see all that
much. But straight ahead of her, a door
opens, revealing one of the men that caught her. Immediately, Raven shouts, “What do you want
with me?!”
“Calm down, Ms. ______. You have nothing to be afraid of here, so
long as you give us what we want.” The
man sits down in a chair that’s next to her.
“We know that you have a special ability, and we want to know how you
got it.”
“I don’t know!
I was born with it!”
“Alright…”
“Where am I?
Who are you?!”
The man puts a hand up to silence her. “All you need to know is that you’re in a
secret government facility, and that I’m your friend here.”
Oh no. Everything that Raven has feared is coming
true. She doesn’t trust anything that
this man is saying. “So what do you
want?”
“We need you to work for us, Raven. Your powers will be very useful.”
Will. They will, as in they’re not going to give her
a choice even though they’re making it sound like it. “Never.”
“Are you sure?”
The man asks, giving away no emotion at all. Raven just replies with a glare. “Very well…”
He presses a button, and an unbearable pain shoots through Raven’s
spine, going throughout her body, making her scream. After a few seconds, he
stops it, making Raven breathe heavily with relief. Before she can even ask, the man
answers. “We have injected you with
nanoscopic probes. When activated, they
attach to your blood cells, making that pain you just felt.” So they want to torture her until she bends
to their will. This just makes her more
unwilling. “So will you work with us?” Raven replies by spitting in his face. The man wipes it off and presses the button,
making Raven scream with agony. “I can
make the pain stop, Raven. All you have
to do is say yes.”
“N… Ne-ne… ver…”
Before she can even get the whole answer out, he twists the button,
making the pain rise.
“Work for us.”
“No…” Higher.
“Work for us.”
“No!” Even
higher. Raven can’t take it, but her temper is rising more and more with each
time. He stops it.
“I’m disappointed, Raven. Any higher and this will kill you.” She may be worn out from the torture, but
once the pain stops, Raven creates an illusion in front of the man, distracting
him from her. She manages to slowly cut
the bonds with her spiked bracelet, running out before the illusion disappears. Alarms go off, flashing the halls red, but
Raven keeps running. She needs to find
Gerard and get out of here.
